Avery Bratt, Ph.D.

Avery Bratt is a licensed Psychologist in both Kansas and Missouri. He provides the psychological services (both therapeutic and assessment) at AHA Psychological Services. Avery is well trained in cognitive and bio-psycho-social approaches to psychology, and offers an eclectic approach to psychological problems. He also has interests in both Eastern and Western therapeutic techniques.

Avery BrattAvery's undergraduate work was completed at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. After working at the Kansas City Regional and Diagnostic Center and at Central State Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma, he went on to graduate school at Texas Tech University where he earned a Ph.D. in counseling psychology with an emphasis in gerontology, neuropsychology/psychobiology and assessment. After defending his dissertation and teaching both undergraduate and graduate level classes; he was accepted into a combined geriatric and clinical internship position at the Veteran's Administration Hospital and Shand's Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Avery completed his post-doctoral work at Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. There he gained experience as a member of various medical teams, and had the opportunity to work with a variety of people with diverse neurological disorders.

After becoming Director of the Behavioral Medicine Department at Sea Pines, Avery assisted in the development of a federally funded PTSD treatment program for Vietnam Veterans, established a private practice in Satellite Beach, Florida, and taught at the Florida Institute of Technology. Avery's special interests have included veteran's issues, trauma, PTSD, hypnosis and hypnotherapeutic techniques, gerontology, grief and loss, addiction and neurofeedback. With a strong background in health psychology, knowledge of administration and experience in research, publishing and presenting, Avery moved his family to Kansas City to take a position as Director of Mental Health Services at a Community Health Center. After more then ten years in community mental health, Avery opened up a second private practice in Prairie Village, KS.

Laura Bratt, M.A

Laura has an M.A. in Psychology from Texas Tech University. She has extensive experienceLaura Bratt working with "special needs children" and addictions, and is well trained in cognitive and emotional techniques. Laura provides neurofeedback training at AHA Psychological Services. Laura completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology at Texas Tech University. Trained in cognitive and biopsychosocial theories, Laura focused on children's and women's issues from a mind/body perspective. While at Tech, Laura worked on research that later became instrumental in revising a major psychological assessment instrument. As part of her graduate education, Laura completed rotations at the Texas Tech University Medical School (neurology department) and at a rural school district; she also taught undergraduate and graduate level courses. After receiving her Master's Degree in Psychology, Laura studied severe psychopathologies, working on locked and open psychiatric and chemical dependency units in Dade county hospitals (Miami, FL). Subsequent to this experience, Laura worked at Sea Pines Rehabilitation Hospital, a rehabilitation hospital for neurological disorders and diseases, in Melbourne, Florida. Laura worked as a psychotherapist at Sea Pines, specializing in Pediatrics, Ortho­-neurology and Oncology.

After moving to Kansas City, Laura focused on raising her family and working with women and children in dysfunctional relationships. Through this work, Laura became interested in neurotherapy as a positive force for change and developed a special focus in working with "special needs children." Laura continues with her education and is committed to the use of Neurofeedback as a means of creating positive change in people's lives.
