Neurofeedback – What is it?
Neurofeedback is a learning process wherein, with the assistance of a trained clinician and the EEG interface, the brain learns to re-regulate itself, thereby optimizing one’s mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. The brain teaches itself, guided by positive reinforcement, to better regulate itself.
While more traditional forms of biofeedback are used to teach people skills only applicable in specific situations (i.e.learning to decrease autonomic arousal during a panic attack); the goal of EEG biofeedback is actually to retrain the brain and reinforce a better regulated state all of the time.
Note: Neurofeedback is also known as Brainwave Biofeedback, EEG Biofeedback, and Neurotherapy.
